Bio
Originaire d’Amos, Abitibi, Christine Viens vit et travaille à Montréal.
Avocate de formation, Christine Viens a mené une carrière dans l’administration judiciaire tout en développant une pratique artistique en arts visuels. Elle se consacre entièrement au domaine des arts depuis 2009. En 2014, elle a cofondé l’Académie des beaux-arts de Montréal, où elle a enseigné la composition pendant plusieurs années. Elle y a assumé la direction générale de 2020 à 2022.
Initiée au dessin et à la peinture dès l’adolescence, elle a suivi des formations auprès de plusieurs artistes tant à Québec, où elle a étudié le droit, qu’à Montréal. Elle a perfectionné ses techniques lors de stages à Paris à l’École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-arts et à Studio Escalier, à New York à la New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting and Sculpting et ailleurs aux États-Unis. De plus, elle participe régulièrement à des ateliers en ligne avec des maîtres de l’art réaliste contemporain.
Christine Viens a collaboré à plusieurs expositions collectives et réalisé des expositions individuelles. Démarche artistique
À travers le dessin et la peinture, Christine Viens explore la richesse expressive du corps humain et animal, témoin de notre vulnérabilité et de notre résilience face à notre destin commun d’êtres vivants.
Férue d’histoire de l’art, elle puise chez les peintres baroques et romantiques, l’inspiration qui traduit la force et l’énergie vitale dans ses compositions. Elle joue sur les couleurs chaudes et vives, l’asymétrie, les obliques et les courbes pour exprimer l’émotion et donner l’impression du mouvement qui caractérise ses œuvres.
La peinture à l’huile, fluide et transparente, sied à son lent processus d’élaboration de l’œuvre en couches superposées. Par ailleurs, elle emploie parfois l’acrylique et le mix média dans les œuvres où les empâtements et la texture contribuent au narratif.
